Garage Jam-athon 2009
Had a great jam session Saturday night with Bart, Juan, and Jamie. Jamie just hit the big 4-0 and threw a party. We had a great time.
Funny thing - as much as I've been playing the guitar lately, my lead playing absolutely sucked it for the first 3-4 songs. Ghost-note city. Cringe-inducing garbage playing. Then I settled in. Man I was honestly getting a little freaked out.
We ran through some old stand-by's and even went through some never-played tunes that sounded pretty decent. At this point we only get together about once per year, but it always blows me away how tight we are. Now that everyone's kids are getting a little bigger hopefully we can get together a bit more often.
Here are the songs we jammed:
- Foo Fighters - No Way Out
- Soundgarden - Outshined
- Pearl Jam - Rearview Mirror
- Temple Of The Dog - Say Hello 2 Heaven
- Ozzy - Crazy Train
- Guns-n-Roses - Welcome To The Jungle
- Guns-n-Roses - It's So Easy
- Alice in Chains - Man In The Box
- Alice in Chains - It Ain't Like That
- Golden Earring - Radar Love
- Great White - Rock Me
- Van Halen - Unchained
- Police - Roxanne
- Judas Priest - The Hellion / Electric Eye
- .38 Special - Hold On Loosely
- Metallica - Enter Sandman
- Iron Maiden - The Trooper
- Iron Maiden - Killers
- Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
- Heart - Barracuda
- Ratt - Lay It Down
I'm probably forgetting some.
I've already nominated Juan to host the next jam for his 40th next month.

That was great. Thanks to all for coming. Sam, your kids are great. Madison had a
great time playing with Emily. Did we have to do Roxanne twice? I mean seriously -
twice? Just kidding. Yeah, up for Juan's. This time no lame excuses from Ronnie.
Ronnie, you're coming!
Sam, yours is in May, right?

Sam,
Your mixed tape rocks. You should go into the mixed tape business. We could put together some really cool late night commercials. Start with the beginning of Layla, "Hey man is that King Rock? Yeah, man. Well turn it up man!" Only we'd be dressed in parachute pants and checkered sleeveless shirts.
Of course, you realize when we break up, I'm keeping this. You get the Julio Iglesias collection.
Brett Dennen played downtown about a month ago. I couldn't make it. Don't even tell me you were there. What is he like 13 now?
Dude, that was way to much fun! Thanks to Jamie for hosting. You know, even as lucky as I am playing in a band that gets paid to play on most weekends, the imprompto jams that we do are always more than incredibly fun for me. There is just something about playing music with guys you've played music with for most of your life that is just uniquely meaningful. As much as I would love to host the next jam, we will be playing the Leesburg Bikefest the weekend of my birthday. We should make an effort to get together more, though. we played for 4+ hours straight..no breaks! That's right. Let's see Priest do that. Don't tell Rob Halford he's been challenged.
